Gitit Botera, director of the Israel Digital Center and a resident of Sderot, shares her personal experience on October 7th, as the attack unfolded in the city. Alone at home with her daughter as the sirens began, she tried to find safety with neighbors — only to learn that terrorists were already in the area. Believing the danger was limited, she returned home. Moments later, as the sirens continued, someone attempted to break into her house. Gitit took a knife and locked herself in the safe room with her daughter, where they remained for hours until they were rescued. Through her work, she also bears witness to the testimonies of survivors, bereaved families, and first responders - and speaks out because many still deny what happened. We won’t be silent.
